What We Do?
Principal Activities
The principal activities for members are:-
- IPU Assemblies
Assemblies are organised each year by the Geneva Secretariat in Geneva
and in member countries all over the world. In addition a number of
specialised or regional meetings are held as well as regular activities
organised mainly in conjunction with the United Nations.
- Working Visits Abroad
The British Group organises three types of visit for members: formal
exchanges with other IPU national groups, short fact-finding missions
and occasional election observing missions.
- Visits to Westminster
The British Group arranges formal exchanges with other national groups
and facilitates visits by Friendship Groups and distinguished visitors.
Recent examples include visits to Westminster by parliamentarians from
Ukraine and Croatia.
Participation in British Group Activities
British Group activities are advertised in the All-Party Notice and applicants
are selected to participate by the Executive Committee. In the case of
formal parliamentary exchanges, The Speaker approves the final selection.
All Party Groups
The British Group also supports and promotes the activites of affliliated
all-party groups with an interest in fostering relations with individual
