BGIPU Chair welcomes Kosovo representative to the UK Parliament

Members of the British Group of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (BGIPU) welcomed a high ranking representative of the Government of Kosovo to the House of Commons on Wednesday 28 October.

Petrit Selimi, Kosovo’s Deputy Foreign Minister, discussed the Kosovo government’s political priorities, including plans to develop its international status, over a working dinner with MPs and Peers in the House of Commons Dining Room as a guest of Nigel Evans MP, BGIPU Chair.

Nigel Evans MP said:

“I was delighted to welcome Petrit to the House of Commons and to have had this opportunity to continue our dialogue with the Government of Kosovo. He is a progressive voice in his country.

“Our Parliament and its members continue to be a friend and ally to Kosovo as it forges its path towards greater international recognition and integration. The BGIPU will continue to develop its links with parliamentary counterparts in Kosovo, recalling our valuable exchange of bilateral inter-parliamentary visits in 2011 and 2012. We look forward to future exchanges.”

Petrit Selimi, Kosovo’s Deputy Foreign Minister, said:

“We are grateful for the continued support of UK parliamentarians.

“This is a vitally important time for Kosovo as we seek to build up our standing in the international community. We signed our Stabilisation and Association Agreement with the EU earlier this week, while our application to join UNESCO will be voted on in November.

“We also count on the support of British parliamentarians in our forthcoming membership bid for Council of Europe.

“One of our priorities is also to develop relations with parliaments and parliamentarians across the world, including the UK.”
