The delegation was supported by Mr Kenneth Courtenay, Miss Dominique

Mr Steve Collier, Deputy Head of the Parliamentary Relations Team in the
Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
Miss Francesca Ingham and Miss Sue Griffiths were also in attendance to
provide support to the 12+ Secretariat, currently under the chairmanship
of John Austin MP.
Mr Douglas Millar, Clerk Assistant, House of Commons and Sir Paul Hayter,
Clerk of Parliaments, House of Lords, were due to represent the UK at
the parallel conference of the Association of Secretaries General of Parliaments
(ASGP), however, important matters at Westminster prevented them from
attending at the last minute. Roger Phillips, Joint Secretary of the ASGP,
and Ms Catherine Close, Assistant Secretary, were present.
This Assembly marked the start of a new Assembly format under the ongoing
reforms of the IPU. The change in format included the new Committee on
UN Affairs and the introduction at these autumn Assemblies of panel discussions
on the three Standing Committees. The Assembly unanimously adopted an
emergency item resolution entitled: The urgent need to immediately stop
the widespread human rights violations and to restore the democratic rights
of the people of Myanmar.
