Annual BGIPU Quiz in support of AMAR Foundation

BGIPU hosted a lively and competitive charity pub quiz on 6 September pitting teams of MPs, Peers and parliamentary staff against each other in a spirit of fun and conviviality.  BGIPU’s guest Quizmaster this year was Andrew Gwynee MP, Member for Denton and Reddish.

Teams including the current BGIPU Chair, Nigel Evans MP, past BGIPU Chair, Alistair Burt MP, BGIPU Executive Committee members Baroness Hooper, Andrew Rosindell MP and Wayne David MP joined past guest quizmaster Stephen Pound MP and a host of parliamentary staff teams (supplemented and bolstered by a range of significant others!!) in a night of tackling challenging questions in the cause of fundraising and awareness-raising of the important work carried out by the AMAR Foundation.

The AMAR Foundation is an award-winning charity that works in the Middle East, building and improving the lives and livelihoods of some of the world’s poorest and most disadvantaged people.

Founded by Baroness Nicolson of Winterborne, AMAR has worked for the last 24 years to provide professional health and education on a sustained and lasting basis, and currently it delivers tens of thousands of medical consultations each year.

Since June 2014, Amar teams have also been working throughout Iraq to help more than 3.4 million internally displaced persons (IDPs) forced from their homes by the Daesh invasion in the north and west. AMAR now build, equip, and run purpose-built health clinics for IDPs, employing local people and using local resources wherever possible.

The selection of the AMAR Foundation as a partner in this event was also in recognition of BGIPU’s plans to host a delegation of parliamentary counterparts from Iraq later in 2016.
