Fabian Hamilton MP elected BGIPU Chair alongside 2024/25 Executive Committee

At its AGM on 13 November 2024 chaired by the Speaker of the House of Commons, Rt Hon Sir Lindsay Hoyle MP, BGIPU members comprising members of both the House of Commons and the House of Lords in UK Parliament elected new BGIPU Officers and Executive Committee members for 2024/25 based on nominations received in advance.   The Member of Parliament for Leeds North East, Fabian Hamilton MP was elected BGIPU Chair unopposed and in taking up the role delivered a speech where he said “It’s a privilege to have been elected Chair of BGIPU.  We must ensure that our engagement is grounded in the realities of the challenges facing people across the world. Growing instability, division, and disinformation put the stability of our democratic institutions at risk”.

In Parliament, Fabian has served as member of the Foreign Affairs Select Committee and Transport Select Committee following his time as the Labour Party’s Shadow Minister for Peace and Disarmament, Latin America and the Caribbean. Since his election to Parliament, Fabian has championed multilateral disarmament and international peacebuilding alongside sustainable and reliable public and active travel.

Alongside regional responsibilities in Latin America and the Caribbean, Fabian has been responsible for Labour Party policy on arms control, the non-proliferation of nuclear weapons, conflict prevention and the UK’s soft power. He is married with three children and two grandchildren and is a keen cyclist and amateur photographer.
