Key Nordic/Baltic responses with UK to support Ukraine and address Russian aggression
On Tuesday 25 October 2022, BGIPU held a Nordic/Baltic Ambassador briefing chaired by BGIPU Chair Harriett Baldwin MP and APPG Norway Chair, Sir Mark Hendrick MP to hear from the Ambassadors of Lithuania, Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Iceland, the Deputy Head of Mission of Finland, and the Defence Attaché of Estonia on their respective country responses to support Ukraine in the face of illegal invasion and war undertaken by the Russian Federation on the orders of President Putin.
There was also broader discussion and Q&A from members regarding long-term approaches being adopted nationally and collectively in the region to addressing Russian aggression in Europe, including greater cooperation and consolidation of Europeans security strictures, particularly the expansion of NATO to include Sweden and Finland. The strong contribution of the UK in support of both Ukraine and in bolstering the defences of other northern European partners was warmly recognised and praised by Ambassadors.
Nordic/Baltic Ambassadors provided an informative session for MPs/Peers addressing current responses in support of Ukraine and long-term strategies to deal with Russian aggression. in Europe.
