Roundtable with UK Ambassador on ROK’s national response to COVID-19

BGIPU were very pleased to host a briefing from the UK Ambassador to the Republic of Korea, H.E. Simon Smith on 20 July regarding that country’s response to the global COVID-19 pandemic and hear his observations on the key social, economic and political impacts of the outbreak.  Members warmly welcomed the opportunity to hear directly the Ambassador’s views on how the authorities in South Korea have addressed the challenges created by COVID-19, noting the country has been lauded for its response after having to face the outbreak very early in its spread across the globe and that its handling has provided important lessons for other countries subsequent affected.

The event was chaired by BGIPU Chair, Harriett Baldwin MP and attended by a number of MPs and Peers, including members of BGIPU’s Executive Committee, who warmly welcomed the Ambassador for making time for this briefing.  They noted BGIPU remained very keen to resume its plans to make an official delegations visit to Seoul to meet counterparts in the National Assembly when circumstances in both countries again allow this to be possible.
