Statement on Jerusalem events by IPU Committee on Middle East Questions

Having met on Monday 10 May 2021, the IPU Committee on Middle East Questions continues to closely monitor the developments unfolding in East Jerusalem. It expresses grave concerns over the escalation of violence and tensions that have unfortunately cost human life and caused extensive injuries and damage. It firmly condemns all forms of violence, irrespective of who is responsible.  It urges all parties to exercise maximum restraint and to refrain from any action that will lead to further damage and loss of human life.

The Committee reiterates its commitment to peace in the region, and requests that all parties engage in meaningful dialogue with a view to a resolution of the conflict with full respect for the legitimate rights of all involved.

The IPU Committee on Middle East Questions is made up of 12 Members of Parliament from around the world with expertise in the Middle East. Its members are elected by the IPU Governing Council for four years. Israel and Palestine are ex-officio members of the Committee.
