The new House of Commons is the most diverse in UK history with over 40 percent of the membership being women MPs
Of the 650 members of the new House of Commons, some 335 are new members elected on 4 July 2024.
The new UK Parliament was opened on 17 July when King Charles III presided over the State Opening in the House of Lords.
Following the opening on the new UK Parliament on 17 July 2024, the BGIPU Director wrote on 22 July 2024 to welcome all new and returning members of the House of Commons and confirmed general arrangements for membership of the British Group of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) covering all members of both Houses. His letter also included plans for BGIPU to convene its next Annual General Meeting (AGM) to elect a new Chair, Officers and Executive Committee in coming months, before the end of 2024.
